What is a Powerboard?
A Powerboard is an electric skateboard; similar to a conventional skateboard (usually a longboard or mountainboard) but with a battery powered electric motor to propel the rider.
We use the term ‘Powerboard’ to distinguish it from toy electric skateboards that are intended for children. Our new Powerboard range is now the most powerful range of electric boards in the world offering the highest performance in speed and range.
What are Powerboards used for?
Being a relatively recent innovation we are hearing of new uses for Powerboards all the time. We know of many people that rely on them as a clean, green and efficient form of transport (where permitted); others use them as runabouts when camping or caravanning; we’ve seen them used in parks, trails and on sea-front promenades; they are being seen on student campuses and even military bases and airfields! Powerboarding is also gaining popularity as a board sport in its own right. Mainly of course, Powerboards are used purely for the thrill of riding!
How is a Powerboard controlled; is it easy to ride?
Our Powerboards are controlled using a handheld wireless remote control, you simply stand on the board and pull the trigger to accelerate; push the trigger forward and the Powerboard will start to brake. They feature automatic ABS regenerative braking if the rider jumps off the Powerboard - providing auto anti-collision protection.
They turn just like a conventional skateboard; shift your weight onto your toes or heels and the Powerboard will turn in that direction. If you have enjoyed any other board sports you will be able to quickly master riding a Powerboard; if not, don’t worry all you’ll need is a little practice. Our Powerboards are also fitted with a discreet 3 stage pre-set speed restriction facility enabling the maximum speed to be reduced while learning to ride.
What is the maximum speed?
The UM70sx™ has a maximum speed of 32 kph (20mph); the UM71sx™ has a maximum speed of 25 kph (15½mph).
What range can I expect from a full charge?
You can expect a maximum range of around 25km (15½ miles) with the UM70sx™; and around 20km (12½ miles) with the UM71sx™. Rider weight, steep gradients and rough terrain are factors that will decrease the battery range.
The battery:
How long does it take to charge?
What is the life expectancy?
Where can I get a replacement or spare battery?
Our Powerboards use detachable deep discharge sealed lead acid
batteries. These take 4 to 6 hours to fully recharge. Battery life
is measured in the number of complete charge>discharge cycles. Our
lead acid batteries have a life of between 250 to 300 cycles (up to 7,500km
or 4,600 miles) depending on treatment. Should you need to, you can
order replacement or additional spare batteries directly from us.
Where can I ride a Powerboard?
Powerboards can be ridden in most places except on the road – they are not road legal.
The UM71sx™ is designed for smooth, dry surfaces only e.g. tarmac, concrete, wood, metal, fibreglass etc; the UM70sx™ can be used on all of these but also on grass and uneven terrain. Powerboards should not be used in the wet.
Powerboards are not designed for high impact tricks or stunts (kerbs, rails etc) or for use on ramps, pipes or bowls which could damage the motor or battery.
If you are unsure whether it is safe or permissible to ride in any location - always seek permission first. As with other board sports always ride with consideration for other people and never in crowded areas.
How big and heavy are the Powerboards?
Powerboards are generally larger and heavier that their conventional skateboard cousins – with decks similar in size to longboards or mountainboards.

Don’t be fooled; despite their size our Powerboards are fast and agile.
What is the maximum rider weight?
Our Powerboards can accommodate riders of all shapes and sizes although weight will influence speed and range. The UM70sx™ maximum rider weight is 120kg (264lbs or about 19st); the UM71sx™ maximum rider weight is 110kg (242lbs or about 17st).
What is the minimum rider age?
Our Powerboards are seriously fun to ride; but they are not toys and we strongly recommend they are not used at all by young children. There is no legal minimum rider age but in the interests of safety they should not be ridden by children without adult supervision and protective safety gear. Our Powerboards have a 3 stage pre-set speed restriction facility – enabling the maximum speed to be discreetly reduced for younger riders for added safety. Rider maturity, responsibility and physical capability are important factors to consider.
Are Powerboards dangerous?
Certainly, they can be dangerous if reasonable caution is not applied. You must ensure you are not likely to endanger others; ride in well lit, wide open spaces free from other people. Powerboards are designed for one rider only at time. Always wear protective safety gear; we strongly recommend a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, gloves and suitable footwear (never bare feet). Please read and act upon all accompanying literature supplied with the Powerboard to ensure safe operation. The rider assumes all risks associated with the use of the Powerboard and is responsible for taking all reasonable measures to reduce those risks.
Do you supply spare parts?
Yes, we supply a full range of spare parts for our Powerboards including replacement batteries. Most components are sealed units and can therefore be replaced easily with no specialist tools or if you prefer we can arrange a back-to-base repair. Check out our Powerboard spares or simply email us at sales@powarider.com with your requirements.
What is included; is any assembly required?
Your Powerboard will arrive fully assembled and will only require a full charge before being used. It will be supplied complete with a 36v 12Ah sealed lead acid battery pack; battery charger; and wireless intelligent digital remote handset complete with full documentation.
What is so special about your Powerboards?
The all new fully CE certified Urban Mover™ Usurfer™ range of Powerboards surpasses all of its predecessors in both design and performance. The new models use 36v power packs and drive trains that instantly boosts torque by up to 50% without increasing motor size.
The new UM71sx™ produces a staggering 600W 36V, while the new UM70sx™ delivers an amazing 800W 36V. The new Powerboard range is now the most powerful range of electric boards in the world. Couple this with an auto decoding encrypted wireless remote control system, electronic ABS regenerative braking, natural maple deck on both boards and stepless acceleration and deceleration with fully progressive throttle.
